we are having some trouble with hot pavement... Shayla does ok for a while but about a quarter of the way into our walk she starts picking her feet up, like she does in the winter with the salt. We try not to walk at the “peak” heat times of day, but sometimes she Insists on going at the hottest part of the day, (And she’s a pretty persistent pooch when she wants something). Any ideas on what we can do to keep her feet from scorching?

Sue has a pair of doggie boots that we can loan you if all else fails. It might be worth a try...
It’s thicker than Vaseline and has a different texture a bit closer to beeswax. Ellie, the Great Dane, lets me put anything on her feet as long as she gets a treat to distract her.... that usually means peanut butter in a thin frozen layer on a dish. She works on that while I put the wax on her paws.
We try Vaseline in winter and we have to do it once her feet start hurting- she won’t let us touch her feet regularly....well I should say she’s recently permitted the occasional gentle bumping of her foot... how do you apply the wax? Is it like vaseline ?
Have you tried paw wax or balm? Mushers secret is a wax that I’ve used on my Danes paws for years. It’s great in the heat and stays on a lot longer than any balm I’ve tried.
We tried booties too with no luck. Perhaps something soothing, but edible (just in case), like coconut oil?
we've never been able to get Phoebe to keep booties on her feet more than a few seconds. maybe if we had some that came further up her leg, that would help.
We had sort of non slip socks for Lucas from Dogma that we used some in the winter. They come up a little higher on the leg (a little harder for him to immediately pull off) with softer soles. Sorry don’t remember the brand.
Personally, I would love to see Shayla in a pair of doggie-boots. Just make sure you take a video of that experience... and share it with me. 😀
